Issue 37 / MAR-APR 2012 CE "Avant-garde". An expression to describe experimental or innovative work, particularly with respect to art and culture. If "Avant- garde" fashion means pushing the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm, then that's exactly what photographer Tussunee Roadjanarungtong and stylist Kas- sandra Powell did in this particular editorial project. This is the first time the two have collaborated sharing the same visual con- cept and direction - presenting a provoca- tive collections to be different. Most of the outfits were painstakingly hand-made, espe- cially for the shoot. Using blacks and whites, playing with textures, shapes and forms of the costumes, the outcome was beyond ex- traordinary. By combining black vinyl spikes, metallic masks, extravagant head pieces and fish- scale body suits, they managed to create a display of magical "out of this world" styling. Talking of her inspiration for the shoot, Tus- sunee said "I just wanted to try something different. I love taking risks and it's more interesting to be brave and make my shoot outstanding. After doing different shoots in the past I wanted to take a gamble with this one and create something which reflects a different side of me." The duo was joined by make up artists Reena Varsani and Ann Alasi. The make-up used in the shoot was new-dark with smouldering eye contour and pigeon-blood lips, giving a truly striking look. With her very genuinely outfits, she creates clothes that seamlessly make the transition from catwalk to the street. Marant's latest Paris show saw the Wild West revived. Last winter she went with the Native American Navajo influence. This spring she was inspired by American football sports casual. For the Autumn-Winter 2012-2013 collection she has returned to her love of cowboys and Indians. Armed with high-heeled cowboy boots and a rodeo shirt, the Isabel Marant girl comes fitted for the saloon. To make her creations more feminine, this designer doesn't hesitate to adorn her models with dizzy shoes, lace and light pink. A true champion of an all- American style, Marant looks set to become an international fashion legend.
