Issue 37 / MARCH 2012 -APR 2012 ¡MAYDAY! ARTIST OF THE MONTH GUESTLIST HIP HOP / RNB 33 www.guestlist.net RECOMMENDS THE WEEKEND The fact that The Weekend's latest mixtape seems to be on constant repeat in the office, we figured it's about time to give him proper respect. This hip-hop group hailing from Miami present us with a mash up mix of genres to create something unique. With their latest album out on the 27th of March, what better time to check out one of the most creative and unique groups in the game! The end of this month will mark the debut release of Miami hip-hop up-and- comers ¡MAYDAY! off of Tech N9ne's Strange Music label. To be titled, 'Take Me to Your Leader,' it is sure to be one wicked record. They create a unique sound that's somewhat a mesh of genres, but with a solid hip-hop core. It's their use of live instruments in their produc- tion as well as the emphasis they have on strong lyricism that makes these guys so engaging. Since their start in 2006 they have worked with the likes of Cee Lo Green and Lil Wayne – which alone speaks volumes of the talent they possess. The band first came to Tech N9ne's atten- tion around late 2010 and it wasn't before long that they were signed to Strange Music. Be on the lookout for their release when it drops at the end of this month! Debuting his music last year he released a nine song free album House of Balloons it was part of a trilogy later followed by Thursday and Echoes of Silence. Already receiving critic acclaim for his artistic renew of the R&B sound resulting to a wide fan base in the anticipation of his third release Echoes of Silence his website (the- weeknd.com) crashed due to the number of downloads. Sean Fennessey of The Village Voice called the album "impressive" and added, "It's patient, often gorgeous, and consistently louche ... with the sort of blown- out underbelly and echo-laden crooning that has already made Drake's less-than-a-year- old Thank Me Later such an influential guidepost." The Canadian native born Abel Tesfaye of Ethiopian descent is also a producer he has EVENT REVIEW Talib Kweli 20th March @ HMV Forum TOUR SCHEDULE DRAKE SCHEDULE Saturday 24th March @ Dublin, Ireland O2 Arena from £37.22 Monday 26th March @ London 02 Arena-7.00PM. Hip-hop legend Mr Talib Kweli touched base in Lon- don town on 21st March at HMV Forum and boy did he smash the show! The sup- port acts came from fellow conscious-minded lyricists, Londons very own Mic Righteous and Lowkey who got the crowd hyped. Yet we were all waiting for Mr Kweli to come to the stage. Playing old classics from Reflection Eternal and Blackstar, Talib took us on a musical journey. Classics such as 'I Try' and of course the beautiful 'Never Been In Love' got the crowd singing along to every word. Talib could not have ended the show without playing one of his biggest tracks, and one of our personal favou- rites 'Get By'. So the encore got everybody on their feet, singing and clapping along to this tune! Overall, a wicked show with Mr Kweli at his best. With a new album due for release this year and also rumours of a new Blackstar album to drop we suggest you keep a eye out for this.
