38 www.guestlist.net DnB / DUBSTEP / BREAKS EVENT PREVIEW GUESTLIST BIG, BAD & HEAVY 17th March @ Fire Issue 37 / MARCH 2012 RECOMMENDS DJRUM This dreamy Londoner's 2-step sound bridges the gap between lounge and club. DJRUM IS SOMETHING OF AN ENIGMA. Jungle, Old School and Liquid Vibes, a night you can't miss. This St. Patrick's Day two of drum & bass' most prolific and perennial camps unite to produce a positively monumental event of jungle, old skool and liquid vibes. Chronic Records and Liquid V have teamed up to celebrate the release of not one, but TWO albums from Bryan G's V Recordings. The Chronic Room, hosted by the illustri- ous Jumpin Jack Frost, will see the launch of 'Big, Bad & Heavy Vol. 3' and has an old skool-jungle lineup to die for with Dillinja, Hazard and Serum to name a few. In the Liquid V Room, it's more of a forward-thinking affair as Eveson launches his astonish- ing new cross-genre album, 'The Last Summer of Love,' joined by Fabio, AI and, of course, Bryan G himself. This is one of the biggest dates in the drum & bass diary for quite a while, so get on it quick! His releases on 2nd Drop and On The Edge have already showcased an incredibly wide reper- toire of influences and production tendencies. Seamlessly fusing the sounds of 2-step, dub- reggae and techno with orchestral compositions and heavily treated samples, Felix Manuel is clearly a true musician at heart. In tracks like Turiya and Mountains Pt.1, the result is a blissfully emotive sound that's as sentimental as it is fierce; less individual tracks, more ethereal journeys through space, time and tempo. The flighty yet ferocious nature of his music seems to join the dots between lounge and club. In a time when genre is becoming increasingly irrelevant and with styles customarily intermin- EVENT REVIEW JAMAIS VU 19th Feb @ Horse & Groom TOUR SCHEDULE HIGH CONTRAST SCHEDULE Friday 24th February @ O2 Academy 2, Oxford, UK Friday 16th March @The Factory, San Fransisco, CA, US Tuesday 20th March@ Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, Denver, CO, US Wednesday 21st March@ The Mid, Chicago, IL, US A sensationally fun inauguration for Shoreditch's supreme new weekly event. Jamais Vu. True to its name, the launch was a familiar kind of event with an unfamiliarly uplifting vibe, with liquid funk from Tendai and founding- father Fabio, and select hip hop cuts from Choice FM's DJ 279. Tendai kicked off proceedings with his usual brand of soulful drum & bass and seamless mixing that has made him an unsung yet highly regarded DJ on the circuit. Mixology maestro DJ 279 then switched up the vibe with an array of hippity-hop crowd pleasers that got the place bouncing and the drinks flowing. By the time liquid-funk luminary Fabio had made his way behind the decks, it had already become a hazy affair of good vibes. Never one to disappoint, Fabio brought his customarily deep and melodic ilk of drum & bass that's made his residency night Swerve a stalwart of the London scene, and took us bubbling through right to the end. It truly feels as if he is bestowed with the celestial power to inflict enticing dreams onto the minds of his listeners. His frankly sublime sound design techniques are far more suited to a long player, and so it's with great excitement and ex- pectation that we await his forthcoming album on 2nd Drop. In the meantime, you can check out his stun- ning Soundtrack to an Imaginary Film mixtape, a dreamlike journey through his cinematic sound, for XFM's Mary Anne Hobbs on soundcloud.com/djrum.
