GOOD EGGS: CHANCE THE RAPPER HELPING CHICAGO'S HOMELESS In partnership with The Empowerment Plan, a Detroit organisation, Chance created the Warmest Winter Initiative, with the goal of raising $100,000 to provide 1,000 winter coats for the homeless population of Chicago. A study by the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless estimates that during the 2014-15 school year, 125,848 Chicagoans were homeless. The coats are water resistant and self-heating, and can also double up as sleeping bags or dufflebags, plus they are actually created by homeless people, who have been hired by The Empowerment Plan to work in the production facility for more than the minimum wage - so not only do donations to the initiative get coats to people in need, they create jobs as well. At the time of writing, over $110,000 had been raised for Warmest Winter, smashing the original goal and creating over 1,100 coats. The Chi-Town native has helped to provide winter coats for the homeless Pie and Mash: The absolute sta- ple of any self-respecting Eastender, Manze's pie and mash has been dish- ing out delicious meat pies and mash for a whopping eighty-six years and since 2013, is officially a listed build- ing. Drink: Mother's Ruin Gin Palace Gin lovers unite. With over one hundred variations of the famous poison, Mother's Ruin is a must. They also do cake, nuff said. Music: Mike's Records in locally fa- mous, Wood St Indoor Market, still flies the flag of the physical copy. The Longest Outdoor Street Market In Europe: This one's right at the top when it comes to bragging rights. Though most locals will choose to shop anywhere but down the market, it remains the heart and soul of Walthamstow, spanning the distance of two train stations coming in at an impressive one kilometre, roughly. God's Own Junk Yard: Now everybody knows that life is never satisfying without your very own personalised neon sign. So this is why you have to get down to this place. Its workshop was liked so much by the people from Vogue that in 2011 they used it for a cover piece in their mag. IT'S A 'STOW TING Walthamstow, or 'Stow as the locals call it, is changing. Here's a heads up on one of London's newest suburban hotspots 7 7 Issue 83 / 2016 GUESTLIST guestlist.net
