From 1990 to 2012 title sponsors Nike,
Buy.com, Nationwide, and now Web.
com have paid for the naming rights
to this U.S. based tour. Starting in
2013, the Web.com Tour now has the
greatest significance it's ever had, as
players who dream of one day playing
on the PGA Tour no longer have the
opportunity to earn their PGA Tour
playing privileges through Q-School
qualifying. Players now have to endure
an entire Web.com Tour season and
at the conclusion of the year, the Top
25 Money Leaders will earn PGA Tour
status for the following season.
What do Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman, and
Zach Johnson all have in common?
They are all Major Champions who
paid their dues, cut their teeth, and
learned how to play professional golf
on the Web.com Tour first, before
becoming PGA Tour superstars.
Best known for his unorthodox
swing, Jim Furyk spent a season on
the Web.com Tour in 1993, notched
one win, and joined the PGA Tour
in 1994. Only utilizing one coach
throughout his playing career, Jim
and his father Mike saw all their
hard work come to fruition with
a major championship win at the
2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Fields
Country Club. In 2010, Furyk won the
FedEx Cup and PGA Tour Player of
the Year despite only averaging 276
yards off the tee. A true grinder in
every sense of the word, Furyk has
had one of the most consistent PGA
Tour careers in the modern game.
