regimen to include fewer products of higher quality with more targeted ingredients. The result is consistent compliments, a simpler skin care program and truly beautiful skin. "I don't feel like I have to cover anything up any more. I use less and less make up," Cathy says. She knows the reduction in topical cosmetics also contributes to a more youthful look. Though she admits the process was difficult, citing the flaking skin and rough patches, she had the support of the professionals at work to help guide and encourage her. The same procedure may be more difficult for someone who doesn't work in a skin care environment, and the professional assistance can't be overemphasized. Kathy recommends scheduling a skin consultation with an expert before you start any serious regime. The information and advice you get from one appointment can save you time, money and heartache while helping you reach your skin care goals. Skin care should start young; Kathy notes that everything starts to slow down in your twenties and it's never too early to begin battling the signs of aging. In the thirties, aging begins in earnest and by the forties, you're working to find balance with fluctuating hormones. She emphasizes that great skin is "not a vanity thing—it's about how we feel." Over her decades in the skin care business, she's compiled a list of six anti-aging tips that can make anyone look and feel their best and it's more than skin deep. Whether you're 20 or 65, each of these contributes to a healthy, more beautiful appearance. 1. Glowing skin comes from speeding up cell turn over, using the right products and eliminating unnecessary cosmetics. 2. Avoid "angry face," that furrowing of the brow that can become permanent over time and make even a face at rest look hostile. Injectables including Botox and fillers such as Juvéderm can address these issues quickly and restore a youthful, more peaceful appearance for almost anyone. 3. Full lashes suggest youthful health and open the eyes in a way that combats visual signs of aging and tiredness. Good options for fuller lashes include lash extensions, natural looking false eyelashes or a product called Latisse that increases the length and fullness of lashes over time. 4. White teeth are a powerful way to fight signs of aging and make your smile really impactful. Kathy suggests talking with your dentist about professional whitening or looking into over the counter products like Crest White Strips. For those who want a more natural approach, "pulling," the process of swishing with coconut oil, may reduce tooth yellowing. 5. Maintaining a waistline gives an overall impression of youth. While diet and exercise are the obvious methods for keeping extra pounds at bay, clever clothing tricks can also provide a visual waistline and help you steer clear of a silhouette that appears matronly. 6. Great posture is free and can make an incredible difference in the way you move through the world. Standing up straight with your shoulders back, tummy tucked in and head up can make you look thinner, more powerful and more confident. PRIMED FOR PAMPERING. Whether you're looking for a flawless face or a haircut that adds some pep to your step, you'll find it in the hands of these Pasadena professionals. feature3_Feb16.indd 63 1/20/16 2:40 PM
