20 MARCH 12-25, 2016 | DENVER CATHOLIC Arrupe Jesuit High School Gala a bright success Arrupe Jesuit High School in Denver recently held their annual gala, and it was quite a success, to say the least. Over 900 people were in atten- dance, and they raised over $1 million for the students of Arrupe. Two students from Arrupe gave moving speeches and the ra¸e completely sold out. The money raised will certainly do a lot of good for a "community [that] believes that each young man and young woman at AJHS is a bright light in our big city, no matter what neighborhood they are from or what their circumstances are now or have been in the past," a press release said. JUDE - Oh Holy St. Jude, Apostle and martyr, great in virtue, rich in miracles, near kinsman of Jesus Christ, faithful intercessor of all who invoke your special patronage in time of need. To you I have recourse from the depth of my heart & humbly beg to whom God has given such great power to come to my assistance. Help me in my present and urgent petition. In return I promise to make your name known & cause you to be invoked. Say 3 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Marys and Glorias for 9 days. Thank you for prayers answered. - G.H.G. IN THANKSGIVING Thank you, St. Jude, for prayers answered. -D.M.V. IN THANKSGIVING Thank you to the Rosary for prayers answered. - M.L.S. FROM ST. PATRICK'S BREASTPLATE I arise today through God's strength to pilot me, God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's eye to look before me, God's ear to hear me, God's word to speak for me, God's hand to guard me, God's way to lie before me, God's shield to protect me, God's host to secure me against snares of devils, against temptations of vices, against inclination of nature, against everyone who shall wish me ill, afar and anear, alone and in a multitude. Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ in breadth, Christ in length, Christ in height, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me. I arise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through be- lief in the Threeness, through confession of the Oneness of the Creator of creation. Brett was recently hired as our new Digital Services Specialist, and he's been a great addition to the team. Brett recently graduated from John Paul the Great Catholic University in San Diego, California, and moved out to Denver to put his talents to use. In addition to being a total web wizard, Brett is an extremely adept filmmaker as well; not bad for a guy who grew up in rural Kansas working on his family's farm. From now on, you have him to thank for all the gorgeous websites that are a®liated with the archdiocese. Welcome to the fold, Brett! Photo provided Fifteen Catholic schools participate in Junior High Academic Decathlon On Saturday, March 5, fifteen Catholic schools participated in the Sixth Annual Junior High Academic Decathlon in the Archdiocese of Denver, held at St. Mary's of Littleton. Over 200 students competed in in the friendly compe- tition, and faced-o¬ in a variety of subjects, including English, Fine Arts, Religion and Science. Students who won their respective individual contest were awarded a $500 schol- arship to any of the Catholic high schools in the archdiocese. Each school repre- sented themselves exceptionally, and though St. Thomas More Catholic School won the decathlon, every student participant was a winner. Way to go, everybody! Photo by Andrew Wright/Denver Catholic Why green? You may have noticed that the Denver Catholic logo is green. That's because we are celebrating our 116th year of being a newspaper this issue! In 1900, the very first issue of the Denver Catholic (that was, in fact, original name) was published, and because it was released around St. Paddy's Day, they decided to print the entire front page in green ink. The green logo is a nod to the original Denver Catholic and a reminder of how blessed we feel to still be going strong after 116 years.
