GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: DJ LIMITED 46 ISSUE 85 / 2016 Bryan Gee and Jumping Jack Frost's event series comes back Another massive compilation for jungle's rising stars DJ Limited has been shaking thing up in the jump up scene for a while with a string of big releases on Biological Beats, Shiftin Beatz and Playaz. He's picked up support from many important figures in d&b including Sigma. Snapping up Limited's first release is Sigma's Life Recordings, seeing him take a new direction in his style. Your Love and Everyday are in a new league to his previous work, especially Your Love that screams for radio play. It's a fresh sound to start the new year, and is a sure sign that we can expect bigger and better things from him this year. Planet V are back in London from April. They haven't been on the London scene for a while now, but this year they are coming back with a new residency at The Qube Project. The event on April 15th starts this new residency that will total 4 huge parties at the venue. A great return to the capital from them who have previous experience with events in Bagleys, The End, and Fabric to name but a few. No names are up just yet, but giving their history in events it'll be nothing short of epic. ALBUM OF THE MONTH: MIKAL - WILDERNESS It's been a long time coming, now finally Mikal has dropped a debut. We've been waiting for this Bristol based producer's debut for a while now and at least the record it's here. It's been well worth the wait, smashing expectations that's built following his endless stream of hard line club hits on high profile imprints ranging from Metalheadz, SGN:LTD and Symmetry. The album, entitled Wilderness, sees 16 tracks tracks that explore a vast range of styles and patterns with the same plunge into low end sub shaking basslines. The overall sound is deeply rooted in jungle, whilst blossoming in experimentation and precision engineering. Each track is perfectly constructed, taking on separate entity of their own, whilst simultaneously in keeping with the album as a whole. Throughout the LP, Mikal has called in some top talent to collaborate, with Break, Chimpo, Xtrah, Buraka Som Sistema's RIOT and Sophie Barker all making appearances. The vibes are deep and streamlined to a postmodern era in drum & bass without diving into a mental neurofunk tip. The very latest from Mikal, who's rapidly becoming one of the most creative, roots based artists.
