16 MARCH 26-APRIL 8, 2016 | DENVER CATHOLIC The Pope is on Instagram Pope Francis is gaining a reputation for being the most social media savvy of all the popes, tweeting regularly from his @pon- tifex Twitter account, and now the Holy Father has joined the ranks of Instagram users world- wide as well. His handle is @franciscus, and he garnered over 1 million followers in less than 12 hours. That has to be some kind of record. Be sure to follow Pope Fran- cis on Instagram for your daily dose of holiness. 50 years of TV Mass for the homebound Celebrating 50 years of anything is a cause for celebration, but the 50th anniversary of TV Mass for the Homebound is particularly special because of the good work they've done all of these years. TV Mass for the Home- bound was launched on March 20, 1966, back when TVs were essentially giant wooden boxes and weighed 300 pounds. I know kids; it's crazy to think there was a time when we didn't have high defi nition, fl at- screen TV's, but jokes aside, broadcasting Mass each weekend from the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Con- ception was as close some could and still do get to going to Mass. It was a service launched to ensure that everybody could par- ticipate in Mass each weekend, including those confi ned to their homes, and 50 years later, it's still happening. If this is news to you, we pub- lish the TV mass schedule in each issue of the Denver Catholic on this very page, so check it out sometime, and join us in wishing TV Mass for the Homebound a warm 50th anniversary! Check out what it looked like at Mother Cabrini Shrine, where they got a foot of snow. As freezing as it likely was, it's sure hard to deny that view. Let's hope it won't stop the pilgrims who made the long trek up to Mother Cabrini Shrine from St. Frances Cabrini in Littleton, as they do every year for Good Friday. PHOTO PROVIDED Redemptoris Mater Seminary celebrates 20 years of mission Speaking of anniversa- ries, there's another huge one happening in March: Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary is celebrating 20 years since then Bishop Fran- cis J. Sta‰ ord signed the decree of erection on March 25, 1996. Many people don't know that the Archdiocese of Denver actually has two seminaries, and while you can read more about Redemptoris Mater in the next issue of the Denver Catholic, trust us when we say they do really awesome things. Redemptoris Mater was built in response to Pope Saint John Paul II's famous visit to Denver in 1993 for World Youth Day, and they have deep roots in the Neocatechu- menal Way. The men of Redemptoris Mater exemplify true love and service, and we in Denver are very blessed to have them. Happy 20th, Redemptoris Mater.
