GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: SCARTIP 46 ISSUE 86 / 2016 Dubstep ambassadors unite at Fabric Scartip is making serious beats right now After nicking a Vibalite cassette tape from his sister's boyfriend, Scartip became obsessed with the UK's underground music. Since his college days he's jumped into production, honing a killer sound to trash the dancefloor. As a DJ he has become a regular at some of the East Midlands' biggest events and even runs his own night in his hometown Derby, called Basstrap. Diving into 2016 he drops a huge release on Audio Addict that's full of serious energy with a mad half time beat. A wicked way to start the year, we can only imagine bigger and better things from him this year. On Friday 6 May, Fabric will be taken over by a set of bass and dubstep selectors spanning a huge range of sounds and origins - UK rapper the Bug will headline the main room with P Money whilst future garage pioneer Phaeleh will take control of room 2. The Bug's seminal London Zoo changed the game for UK hip hop and dubstep, merging the two genres seamlessly, whilst incorporating elements of trap and grime. On Friday, he performs with Flow Dan, Riko Dan, Manga and Miss Red. Whilst the Bug is joined in room 1 by Loefah, Phaeleh will be joined by dBridge in room 2, completing the dubstep takeover. One of Fabric's best lineups to date. ALBUM OF THE MONTH: CALIBRE - SHELFLIFE VOL. 4 Calibre's much loved [Shelflife] series has appeared again with its fourth instalment "Calibre's catalogue of music is huge. Over the years the drum & bass producer has created a sound of his own. His style is vast but remains constant. Specialising in smooth liquid rollers with the occasional dabble in more grimey beats, he captures the energy from the clubs whilst still keeping the music grounded, a quality that ensures 10/10 listening conditions no matter where you're listening from. The Signature Recordings boss has landed into 2016 with a new [Shelflife] series. For those who are familiar, you know what to expect and for those who don't...well. The producer has gone through his hard drives, mini discs and anything else that could possibly hold music to find the very best in old Calibre music that never got a release. Calibre remasters them and compiles them into an album, giving these old gems a chance to shine. This latest installment is the fourth in the series and summarises the producer's diverse drum & bass sound. Boasting 13 tracks, featuring collabs with DJ Marky and Cleveland Watkiss, it carries us across his style. Despite being a compilation of different tracks it listens like an album, and that's all down to Calibre's exceptional talents."
