PHOTO COURTESY GIBSON PERFORMANCE CFT, SFT and MWA designs. "Racers are burning the packing out of some mufflers we've seen," said Adair. "That burning causes the volume of air inside the muffler to change over time, which can influence performance, so Gibson made the decision not to use packing to keep performance airflow consistent." Gibson's MWA design is their latest techology, and was unveiled at the 2015 SEMA Show. It is a straight-thru muffler that promotes exhaust gases to flow at the highest rates, flowing only three cfm less than a three-inch straight pipe. Gibson claims it improves power potential while keeping interior drone to a minimum. Richard Waitas senior manager at Magnaflow has a similar opinion of what mufflers do RACING HEADER DESIGN AND LENGTH IS CRITICAL BUT IT MUST ALSO FIT WITHIN THE CHASSIS. THIS IS WHY MOST ARE CUSTOM-MADE FOR EACH APPLICATION. MUFFLER DESIGNS VARY FROM MANUFACTURER TESTING PROCEDURES. THIS GIBSON MWA SERIES MUFFLER FEATURES A STRAIGHT-THROUGH DESIGN THAT PROMOTES HIGH EXHAUST FLOW WITHOUT INTERNAL PACKING OR HEAVY BAFFLES. 070 SCORE JOURNAL ICON MEDIA
