and find my way," he recalls. "I
had a lot of animosity towards
Johnny in the beginning. I don't
have that anymore. I respect
him and understand that it
was a business decision."
TEAMING UP WITH
MARK SAMUELS
Udall was determined to keep
on racing in Baja and quickly
put together a privateer effort
with Mark Samuels, running
a two-bike team in 2014 as
WFOx Motorsports Honda.
The acronym (which stood for
Warriors For Ox) was a tribute to
his former partner, friend, and
roommate Jeff "Ox" Kargola
who passed away while on a trail
ride near San Felipe in 2011.
While they understandably
had the usual growing pains,
the new team was unable to
defend that 1X plate in 2014.
The following year, however,
they came out stronger
and more savvy to reclaim
the championship in 2015,
making Udall one of only three
motorcycle racers (including
Dan Ashcraft and Robby Bell) to
earn four SCORE championships
in its most storied class.
LEARNING FROM SOME
OF THE BEST RIDERS
It's been quite the ride for
Udall who grew up around
racing, though not off-road. "I
started riding around 10 years
old and got my first AMA license
and raced the [AMA District 37
Big 6] 29 Palms Grand Prix [in
29 Palms, California] for the
first time. That was my first race
and that was in 2000, literally
16 years ago when I was 13.
Three years later, my mom got
together with Brad Oxley and
LAST YEAR, COLTON

CELEBRATED A
1-2 FINISH AT THE
SEASON-ENDING

WHICH CLINCHED
HIS FOURTH SCORE
MOTORCYCLE
CHAMPIONSHIP,
PUTTING HIM IN
ELITE COMPANY.
