68 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2016 FOOTBALL PREVIEW RUNNING BACKS PLAYER BIOS POSITION COACH Tyrone Wheatley enters his second season as Michigan's running backs coach, after returning to the program in which he starred as a tailback in the early 1990s. In the 2015 season, the Wolverines' rushers gained 2,057 yards on 491 carries with 27 touchdowns. Before returning to Ann Arbor, Wheatley served as running backs coach for the Buffalo Bills from 2013-14. Prior to that, he coached college football at Syracuse (2010- 12), Eastern Michigan (2009) and Ohio Northern (2008). Wheatley coached Syracuse's Delone Carter to a 1,000-yard season in 2010. Wheatley played for the Wolverines from 1991-94, fin - ishing as the second-leading ground gainer (now fifth) in modern Michigan football history with 4,187 yards. He earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors in 1992, as well as garnering notice as a track All-American in the 110-meter hurdles in 1995. Wheatley played 10 seasons in the NFL, with the New York Giants and Oakland Raiders, before turning to coaching. RETURNING PLAYERS JOE BENEDUCCI • FB Jr. • Far Hills, N.J.
