GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: GET HYPE RECORDS 44 ISSUE 89 / 2016 It's the second installment of Planet V's new London residency at The Qube Project, and this time they are going in. It's been a mad 6 years for The Prototypes and have no sign of calming down any time soon. The Prototypes have become a force to be reckoned with in drum & bass. Over the past 6 years they have dominated the big room drum & bass style with scorching smashers. This year The Prototypes aren't sitting around opening a new label Get Hype Records. They will be letting you grab all the label's tunes for free from the Get Hype website They've started as mean to go on, and that's hard AF - with the big room blaster 'Rocket Guns Blazin'. Its a juicy beat that sums up their heavy hitting style perfectly. This time they'll be holding down a history drafting in some of the most respected names to give the lectures. Heading proceedings head honcho Bryan Gee going B2B with the legends Jumping Jack Frost and Ruffstuff. Also on the night is one of the deadliest combinations in drum & bass history, Fabio & Grooverider. Randall & Bailey will also be down. Making things global all the way from Brazil, V have called in not one but two huge acts. DJ Patife will be spinning records as well as the labels hottest new duo, Alibi looking ahead to the future. ALBUM OF THE MONTH: TECHNIMATIC - BETTER PERSPECTIVES It's been two years since their landmark debut album, Desired Paths. The album was huge, described by Mixmag as 'the best drum & bass album in years'. So no pressure then... Desired Paths was always going to be a hard album to follow but the Brighton boy's haven't caved under this pressure. A lot has changed in the scene since their debut album, but Technimatic's focus on quality hasn't shifted. Marking their magic touch across the Better Perspective, the attention to detail is obvious. Diving deep into the realms of liquid, they mash blissful soundscapes, on point bass tones and first class drums together; easily making the best album of the year so far. The quality will blow you away; there's never a dull moment as the two Shogun warriors work their craft with a varied take on the liquid style. The tracklist covers those smooth vocal jams, club heavy rollers and experimental trips. Technimatic explained that this album 'was a lesson in the endless possibilities that can be created from familiar elements, and the ways in which structure and form can stimulate new ideas and directions'. You can hear what they mean - using the standard formulas and creating something so special, the blueprints became the solid foundation of this exploration of drum & bass. 'We came to it it knowing what we would discover; it's left us with a new love for what we do'. Well Technimatic, this album gave us a new love for you.
