50 Issue 90 / 2016 INDIE The band have called it quits after 14 years together After four successful albums, including the Mercury Music Prize nominated Given to the Wild and last year's number one Marks To Prove It, and fresh off a headline slot at this year's Latitude Festival, The Maccabees are bowing out. The band released a statement explaining the split, "We are very proud to be able to go out on our own terms, at our creative peak and off the back of the best and biggest shows we have ever done. There have not been fallings out and we are grateful to say that we are not leaving the group behind as a divided force." They also stated that they all plan to continue making music in some capacity, so we'll just have to see what the future holds. NEWS: THE MACCEBEES ANNOUNCE SPLIT ALBUM OF THE MONTH: ECHOTAPE - WICKED WAY It's an intelligently crafted, feel-good collection of eleven exquisite tracks that pack a punch Recorded at their home studio in the depths of Hampshire, the album explodes into life with a bang right from the off. Opening track 'All My Days' depicts a tale of over indulgence "The doctor says I better get some rest, If I don't slow down I'm gonna end up dead" sings Marc Burford. The standout album track 'Whiskey Bar' continues the pace with its gang-like sing-alongs and sunshine fuelled lyrics. 'I Got You' and 'We've Been Dreaming' showcases the band's delicate side with intricate guitar picking arrangements which tug on the heartstrings. "I got you, and you got me. In the end I wouldn't change a thing". In amongst the drumbeat and pumping bassline in 'See You Soon' there is a darkness in the lyrics, 'You work like a dog for the rest of your days, and in the end you'll just die anyway". On its own it's a sinister line but intertwined with the euphoric choruses and bouncing verses it becomes something far less venomous. The album finishes with title track 'Wicked Way'. Each layer slowly builds and until it beautifully erupts with a wall of sound and a crashing climax. "What a wicked way we all live" he sings. It picks you up and drops you down in the right places, takes you on a journey and all the while making you feel content in life. It's a breath-taking achievement to create an album of this quality. TRACK OF THE MONTH: FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE - TOO MUCH IS NEVER ENOUGH & I WILL BE Final Fantasy has an incredible soundtrack: Florence + The Machine released three new songs for the much anticipated new version of the game. Florence + The Machine released three new songs that will be part of Final Fantasy XV. They are called I Will Be, Too Much is Never Enough, and a Ben E. King's Stand By Me's cover. It is a perfect combination of Florence incredible indie vibes and the dream-inducing atmosphere of the Square's game. Florence Welch is always on fire. After releasing How Big How Blue How Beautiful in 2015, she has been through a huge tour around the world. She has performed in Italy, Brasil, U.K., U.S.A. and many more countries. These new tracks come out as a surprise, a pleasant one. It's not the first experience in the world of soundtracks: the indie group obtained critical acclaim for the nearly perfect Breath of Life which was released in 2012 for the movie Snow White and the Huntsman.
