Board of Directors Election Results STAR would like to congratulate Pete Carlson, Eric Dursin and Tom Hillgrove for being elected to the Board of Directors in August. They will each serve 3-year terms in their respective positions. Facility Member Representatives: • Pete Carlson – Ice Arena Operations & Programs Director, Blaine, Minn. • Eric Dursin – General Manager, Babson College Skating Center, Wellesley, Mass. At-Large Member Representative: • Tom Hillgrove – President, Rink Management Services Corp., Mechanicsville, Va. STAR would like to thank outgoing directors Ty Newberry, Rick Ninko and Mark Ladwig for their contributions and service on the Board of Directors. We would also like to give a special thank you to Bill Howard who served on the STAR Board of Directors as a U.S. Figure Skating representative from 2000-2016. Bill's insight, perspective and hearty laugh will be missed. New Website Launch STAR is currently underway with the development of a new organization website, that will launch January 1, 2017. The overall design will be cleaner, and the navigation will be streamlined. The website will also include a new "Members Only" resource center. The resource center will include a career center, RINK Magazine archive, sample documents, videos and a member forum. STAR COO named Vice-Chairman of ASTM sub-committee Jeff Theiler, Chief Operating Officer, has accepted the Vice- Chairman position for the ASTM International F08.66 sub-committee. The F08.66 sub-committee focuses on the standardization of specifications, test methods and practices for sports facilities to reduce inherent risk of injuries and promote knowledge as it relates to these standards ASTM International is a not-for-profit organization that provides a forum for the development and publication of international voluntary consensus standards for materials, products, systems and services. ASTM volunteer members represent producers, users, consumers, government, and academia from more than 140 countries. STAR Supports Regional Rink Management Associations In August, STAR participated in the Wisconsin Ice Arena Management Association (WIAMA) annual "Fall Fire Up" conference held in Chippewa Falls, Wis. STAR sponsored the event, and staff taught a SIRO course for attendees. In September, STAR traveled to Breezy Point, Minn., to participate in the Minnesota Ice Arena Managers Association (MIAMA) annual fall conference as a sponsor, exhibitor and education provider. STAR held an Ice Making & Painting Technologies (IMPT) course for attendees during the conference. We would like to thank the WIAMA and MIAMA board of directors and membership for the opportunity to support their events again this year.
