FESTIVALS
Afropunk is bringing the power
to the party spirit to London this
September.
The festival prides itslef on celebrating diversity and
the line up certainly does just that with the queen,
Grace Jones, set to headline alongside a variety of
talent spanning mulitple genres.
Grace Jones is, simply put, an icon and an
inspired choice to to headline after the controversy
surrounding their original pick, M.I.A. Her
performance will no doubt bring an injection of
style, and energy to the stage. Birmingham signer
/ songwriter Laura Mvula joins with her rich tones
set for a soul-searching show and it will be great
to see the energetic indie-punk of The Noisettes
back in action. Outside of the music, there'll be
the SpinThrift Market traders with bespoke goods
and crafts and a curated food truck rally, pop up
restaurants, arts and more.
AFROPUNK IS
COMING TO LONDON
After launching three years ago as a weekly residency at Edinburgh's Cabaret Voltaire, FLY is getting into the festival
game.
On 24th September at the Ross Bandstand, underneath the
iconic Edinburgh Castle, FLY is taking things open-air with
their first festival and the city's first inner city outdoor house
and techno event. The prime city centre location is only two
minutes walk from Edinburgh Waverley train station, and
has been neglected for years, so FLY are buzzing to bring it
back to life and showcase the space to a fresh, new, young
crowd. Backed by FLY residents Denis Sulta and Theo Kottis
— local boys who now regularly feature on Radio 1 — the
initial line-up includes disco don Motor City Drum Ensemble,
UK live legend Mr. G, Dutch house heroes Detroit Swindle
and Sub Club's Harri + Domenic, with many more still to be
announced, including a headliner not to be missed.
