Minnesota Hockey has purchased 300 sets of QuickChange goal- ie gear, worth nearly $60,000, through Total Hockey. Each of Minnesota Hockey's 145 community-based associations will receive two sets of the gear in December to be used for the 2016-17 season. Consisting of 24-inch leg pads and a padded goalie jersey, both of which are designed to fit over standard player equipment, the QuickChange gear will allow 8U skaters to become goaltenders in 60 seconds. In the matter of one practice, every player on a team can give the goaltending position a try. By enabling more players to experience the position at every practice, the goal of the special- ized equipment is increase the number of kids interested in being goaltenders as they move onto higher levels of play. C OACHES C ORNER NE W GOALTENDING INITIATIVE! Gear Up Minnesota! is the longest running and most successful equipment grant pro- gram in the country. The program provides youth hockey associations in Minnesota with brand new sets of starter hockey equipment with the goal of getting more kids to try hockey. Many teams across the state have already hit the ice, and that means our Coach Education Programs (CEP) are in full swing. CEP clin- ics are being held now through December at locations throughout Minnesota. Remember, coaches must attend one clinic each year until they at least reach a Level 3 certification by USA Hockey. The age appropriate training modules have been posted online and must be completed by all coaches before December 31st. Interested in learning more about long term athlete develop- ment or how to coach goalies? Our Minnesota Hockey Player Development Team offers additional instruction sessions at no cost to your or your association. Our talented team of coaches will come directly to your association to host these two part clinics that provide classroom and on-ice instruction.
