ROSARITO BEACH 20TH SCORE DESERT CHALLENGE RECAP HUERTA POSTS A SECOND-PLACE OVERALL FINISH While the Trophy Trucks were battling it out in their respective heats for the fastest times, Jaime Huerta Sr., who was driving for his son Huerta Jr. in the number 175 Class 1 buggy ran under the radar and ended up with a fast enough time for a second place finish overall, and first place in his class. This win took some valuable points away from Brad Wilson, who was the current points leader in Class 1 going into the Rosarito Beach race. "Everything went really well and I was trying to build on yesterday's run," said Huerta. "We took some chances and made up the deficit from [Saturday's heats] and fortunately, we didn't have any problems." Despite finishing second in Class 1 and fourth overall in his Jimco Chevy, Brad Wilson still ROUNDING OUT THE TOP FIVE FINISHERS AT THE 2016 ROSARITO BEACH SCORE DESERT CHALLENGE, WAS ELIAS HANNA, WHO WON THE TROPHY TRUCK SPEC CLASS. MARC BURNETT CONTINUES WINNING IN HIS COMEBACK YEAR, TAKING THE UTV FI CLASS IN HIS POLARIS RAZOR. thinks he has enough to lead the class going into the SCORE Baja 1000. "I took the first lap a little too conservatively because I didn't drive Saturday, and I knew there would be a lot of flats out there," he said. "Ray Griffith drove yesterday and gave me the car in a great position but I let it slip on the first lap. I tried to play catch up on the second but it didn't pay off. I think this will give us the points lead going into the SCORE Baja 1000." Rounding out the top five finishers was Trophy Truck Spec driver Elias Hanna in the number 274 Chevy. Hanna beat out a large field of eight trucks to finish first in his class and ran a smart race. "The course was really good and I knew I had to charge really fast in the first lap because I couldn't let the other trucks get ahead," said Hanna. "I pushed it too hard the first 10 miles and caught the first two, and then took my pace. My team was doing a really good job calling the times. We knew on lap two that we were ahead by four minutes so we kept the pace, kept the gap and now we are on the box." 014 SCORE JOURNAL
