Yes, Christmas is a great time to become spiritually rejuvenated by all of the beautiful celebrations the Church has to oƒer, but it's also the perfect opportunity to throw on those snowshoes, ice skates, snowboards or« what have you and participate in some leisurely activities after a long year's work. Thankfully, living in a place such as Colorado aƒords those looking for something fun to do this holiday season with tons of options that are usually just a stone's throw away. Denver Catholic hunted down some of the best activities available«this Christ- mas season«so you don't have to. ICE SKATING Though Colorado has many ice skating rinks that are open year round, nothing beats the old-town feel of one of many special Christmas-themed rinks that open specifically for this season. Throw on your favorite hat and scarf, grab a steamy cup of hot cocoa and skate to your hearts' content at one of these holiday ice skating rinks. • Evergreen Lake House 29612 Upper Bear Creek Rd. Evergreen, CO 80439 • Southwest Rink at Skyline Park Arapahoe St. and 16th St. Denver, CO 80265 • Winterskate in Historic Downtown Louisville (opens Thanksgiving Week) 824 Front St., Louisville, CO 80027 • The Rink at Belmar¯of Lakewood 439 S. Teller St., Lakewood, CO 80226 LIGHTS Of course, one of the best parts of Christmas is the extravagant displays of colorful lights that adorn neighbor- hoods and city blocks. Sure, Catholics get the greatest light of all through Christ, but we all have fond memories of driving around the neighborhoods we lived in as kids to look at the lights. It can be tempting to pull a Clark Griswold and blow the city's electrical supply trying to coat every inch of your house in lights, but we suggest going to one of these light-themed activities instead. • Blossoms of Light Nov. 25, 2016 - Jan. 1, 2017 Denver Botanic Gardens 1007 York St., Denver, CO 80206 • Denver Zoo Lights Dec. 2, 2016 - Jan. 1, 2017 2300 Steele St., Denver, CO 80205 • Santa's Lighted Forest Train Nov. 19, 2016 - Jan. 3, 2017 Georgetown Loop Railroad 646 Loop Dr., Georgetown, CO 80444 • 9 News Parade of Lights Dec. 2-3 Friday 8 p.m.; Saturday 6 p.m. 16th Street Mall, Denver, CO 80202 SHOPPING Everbody loves to shop during the holidays, but doesn't it get boring going into the same stores over and over again? These charming little markets and craft fairs oƒer a diƒerent side of the Christmas shopping experience, one that hearkens back to the days of Charles Dickens. • Vandel Antiques A Paris Street Christmas Market Dec. 9-10 Douglas County Events Center 500 Fairgrounds Rd. Castle Rock, CO 80104 • Bethlehem Handcrafts Quality handcrafted olive wood products from the Holy Land Displays in Park Meadows and Flatirons Malls OTHER FUN THINGS Anybody who lives in Colorado likely knows about the many ski resorts, tubing hill, etc. that are always great to go to during the holidays (if you don't mind the trašc, that is). How- ever, there are a lot of other great attractions« within the Metro-Denver area that are great to bring the family to this Christmas season. Here are a few museums and other cool tours that are good alternatives just in the case the weather is a bit too chilly. • Denver Museum of Nature & Science 2001 Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80205 • Littleton Museum 6028 S.
