The funk legend. The American fuck and R&B singer, Sha- ron Jones has sadly passed away after suffering a stroke. She was the lead singer of the Brooklyn based band, Sha- ron Jones & The Dap-Kings. She broke into the scene when she was older than most artists seeing her first record re- leased when she was 40 year old. Despite gaining success in later life, her deep and powerful voice was in training from a young age. As a child she regu- larly sung gospel in church and entering herself into talent competitions, around the early 70s. Eventually, as what hap- pens all too often, her singing career paused. But Sharon struck it with a signing in 1996 backing the legend Lee Fields. She went on to be a very successful singer in her own right with huge en- ergy and passion for what she did. She hooked up with members of a couple of Brooklyn bands who eventually became The Dap-Kings. In 2013 it was made public that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She underwent surgery putting her 5th album on the back burner. She still managed to perform during this time - refusing to wear a wig. In 2015 she revealed that after the surgery the can- cer had returned, and after a stroke on the US election night this November she sadly passed away. Rest In Peace to another legendary artist, your passion and dedication to your love will inspire us all. PLAYLIST 99 Riddim (My Ting) Scorcher feat. His headline performance at the mammoth venue will sign off arguably Skepta's biggest year after his album, Konnichiwa, won the Mercury Prize Award. The grime artist beat off David Bowie, Savages and Radiohead. Kamaiyah is an upcoming MC from the Bay Area. Inspired by the the top talents of the 90s including TLC & Missy Elliot - Kamaiyah has been bringing serious heat to the game. The Oakland rapper has quickly raised her reputation after a string of big tracks but it was her debut, A Good Night In The Ghetto, that really put her on the map. She showed exactly why Californian party music is live. This has been a mammoth year for her, but with her down to earth attitude and brilliant sound this will only be the beginning.
