Tell me a bit about your back- ground, do you come from a musical family? Yes I did. My grandad has been around music since before I was born. He was working with my uncle, dennis Brown. My grandad had his own studio and artists who would come in record so I was always around it. We always used to play music, you know how black families are, whenever you're cooking, you're playing music. What was the transition to say, I want to make this my life's work? That was when I went to second- ary school and I saw equipment that I had at home. Let me just not go in the playground, let me get in the music room. I used to MC as well. I would record everyone, mix it down, make a little mix down. Everyone used to record when I wasn't there but they'd be like "It doesn't sound the same as when you're there, Kane". How does it work for you... Music first or the lyrics or just when the inspiration strikes? I'll just be driving and here a melody that comes. I'll record it on my phone, I've got loads of voice notes on my phone and just go to the studio and sit down with my producer and make something out of that. Tell me a bit about Raindrops... That's about when you have a girlfriend and you know she's upset but you don't really know why. Sometimes she might have something deeper, like family situations. It was just to show girls that there are guys out there that you can talk to, even if you're not together. You collaborated with Sneakbo on Turn It Up and the video for that looks like a lot of fun! Tell me a bit about that... You know that day was just like a party. Everyone was drink- ing, not me obviously! Everyone was just having a good time. The song was done actually before we got Sneakbo on it so I had the song and I was thinking, "Who is really doing it, who can jump on this style and bring that Bash- ment kind of flavour" and then I thought Sneakbo!
