54 ISSUE 93 / 2016 REGGAE TRACK OF THE MONTH: AKCEPT - THE STREETS (FEAT. CLINTON SLY) The reggae star's Zion Awake tour in Europe this November & December was almost off the cards. Deep dub sounds from New Zealand. Akcept has been on fire recently, and his latest release 'The Streets' is a shining example as to why. The EP's title track rolls out his distinctive low end basslines with a sprinkle of funk for some a seriously hot beat. The Canadian elite, Clinton Sly has joined the New Zealander laying down his rugged vocal style over the sweet reggae dub cut. Elsewhere on the EP, Akcept mixes up two tracks that will fully immerse you with their impressive sonic build ups and beefy basslines. It's deep dub music at it's very best. Akcept - expect big things! Luciano had cancelled the tour on November 8th with a long Facebook post, and later a video statement. He said "I am dissatisfied with the way this tour was haphazardly put together." He added, "Over the years I have worked very hard to build my career and to establish myself as one of the icons of reggae music and I am very disgruntled by the way myself and my fans have been treated." The announcement left loads of people across disappointed, but fortunately things were sorted and only 6 days later Luciano was back on Facebook withdrawing the tours cancellation. Luciano Messenjah emerged as one of the most important reggae singers after the release of his 1995 album 'Where There Is Life'. Holding steadfast to enriching principles - his positive lyrics earned him the title Messenjah. Over the years he has continued releasing albums - racking up 21 between 1993 and 2014. His tour will see him performing in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Holland & Italy. NEWS: LUCIANO MESSENJAH'S ZION AWAKE EUROPEAN TOUR CONFUSION ALBUM OF THE MONTH: RADIKAL GURU - DUB MENTALIST Trending the line perfectly between the dancefloor and at home listeners, the Polishman's third album is heavy! Radikal Guru is back with Moonshine Recordings with the LP 'Dub Mentalist'. It's 10 fresh dub cuts bringing together elements from across the reggae spectrum for a special album. Over the beefy basslines is a good variety of horns, and vocals giving the beats some serious rhythm. Each track hits as hard as the last - bold riddims that'll blow any soundsystem with the perfect combination of psychedelic spins and reverbs. Across the project their are collaborations with artists Jay Spaker, Echo Ranks, Solo Banton, Violinbwoy and Earl 16 - providing immersive vocal energy to get you lost in the beats. This is a powerful album, Radikal Guru at his best.
