8 THE GUESTLIST NETWORK www.guestlist.net OFFICE OLYMPICS! Tom Hay's book 'Office Olympics' book can get the whole office into the mood for this year's Games. Liven up that dreary day with a few team build- ing, competitive, fun Olympic-style games, using supplies you can find in any office. Here are our top 5 examples: Issue 41 / 2012 Rubbish Basketball All offices get messy. Any room with more than one person in it for over a few minutes is bound to get untidy over time. Make use of the office chairs again and make sure each player is sat comfortable about a metre away from a waste- paper bin with several balls of scrap paper ready to go. If the players find the game too easy, make sure they move backwards in between rounds to make the competition a little tougher. Chair Racing It's as classic as a BLT. Office chair racing! Find a corridor wide enough for two 'athletes' to travel down at once. Either allow players to select someone to push them down the corridor for extra speed, or allow players to use all the power of their legs to get them to the end of the corridor first. Make sure you have a referee at the beginning and end of each race to make sure there is a fair start and the winner is correctly spotted. Mouse-Mat Discus You're effectively throwing a plastic-style plate as far as possible, and hoping it doesn't just roll right back to you. But have you ever considered using a bit of a lighter material? Mouse mats for instance? Clear a large enough room in or around the office for a few players to have space to throw a mouse- mat a fair distance. Make sure you have a referee that can see each player laugh their mouse-mat one after the other, and another to see which one lands the furthest away. Refreshments Relay No one ever wants to be the one to take the two metre walk to the coffee machine or kettle to fuel the finds of their co-workers every morning. But you'll be fighting over wanting to be coffee boy or girl with Refreshments Relay! Make sure the corridor you use is wide enough for a few competitors to comfortable run along as fast as possible with a tray full of food and drink. As the competition continues, load the trays with more food or drink that's difficult to hold or heavy. Opening Ceremony Danny Boyle claimed that the London Opening Ceremony 'would not be about trying to beat Beijing', instead look at things differently. Little has been revealed as to what exactly will go on the evening of 27th July, but the hint is that it will be interactive with the audience, and involve British Countryside. If its not good, then it will definitely be jokes so always worth getting involved. STANFIRST STANFIRST STANFIRST STANFIRST 7 SITES, IN THE 7 MONTH, 7 YEARS SINCE WE GOT THE GAMES! There can be little doubt as to what is always the highlight of the Olympic Games, as the 28 sports all boil down to focus on one track event, the 100 metre sprint. Even prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the sprint featured as a major focus point, more so now with the emergence of Usain Bolt, this is a 10 second thrill you won't want to miss. Boris Johnson's Speech The bumbling, messy-haired Mayor of London often causes a stir around the UK, whether that is for his clumsy appearance or just general all-round nice-guy personality. Either way, he has been entrusted with delivering a speech at this year's games which is guaranteed to be a comical event. See, politics is fun. 100 Metre Sprint Final Beach Volleyball Men all over the world! Beach volleyball is back and brings with it another fine showing of the sports female athletes. As well as this it can actually be pretty exciting at times too. Lets just hope that the occasion is marked with the appropriate weather, unlike Beijing. Big up British summertime!! Cycling Cycling is on our list for the simple fact that we are good at it. Us Brits face regular disappointment in sports, mainly football. However, for some reason we rock at this two wheeled, lycra based sport. 8 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronze medals at the last Olympics is what we at GN like to call dominance, and hopefully this year we'll do the same. Football With all of this Euro action going on before the Olympics we will probably all be sick of football by the time the Olympics come around in July. But with the potential of seeing legends of the game such as Bellamy, Giggs and Beckham it will be a whole new spectacle. And a much wanted second chance. Gymnastics You're probably thinking No. 3? Gymnastics? Really? TBut the figures don't lie and the gymnastics were the fastest selling tickets, selling out in seconds. There is obviously something to see here, so if you can get in, do it!
