46 ISSUE 94 / 2016 INDIE Hot on the heels of its radio premiere on BBC Introducing over the weekend, Matt Wills releases 'Set You Free' The band is back in the UK in January for a new tour The first track to be lifted from his forthcoming EP of the same name, 'Set You Free' showcases Matt's signature style, where soulful acoustic melodies are combined with electronica to create something original and emotive. Matt is an artist who likes to bend genres and blur boudaries; he sharpened his lyrical skills in freestyle rap battles as a teenageer but cites the likes of Ben Howard, the 1975, Jamie T and The Kooks as his main influences. This approach has certainly won Matt some influential fans. His last release The Hurricane EP, featured production from Mad Decent's Daktyl and guest vocals from Devlin, and was championed by Skrillex. 'Set You Free' is another step up for this exciting talent and marks him as one to watch. Following a stormer at this year's Reading & Leeds Festival, Kentucky band Cage The Elephant is returning to UK with a new tour in support of their critically-acclaimed album Tell Me I'm Pretty. As well as hitting Dublin, Glasgow and Manchester, the band will take to O2 Academy Brixton on 20th January. With Spring King and Declan McKenna supporting, this is one gig you want to get down early for. GUESTLIST RECOMMANDS: MATT WILLS EVENT REVIEW: CAGE THE ELEPHANT ARTIST OF THE MONTH: JUST ALEX Canadian singer, songwriter and producer Just Alex is one to watch for 2017 On his debut radio single 'Little Things' the emerging Montreal-based musician is joined by fast-rising musician and fellow Canadian native Yan Etchevary. 'Little Things' is a product of both musicians studying at the prestigious Campus Notre-Dame-De-Foy in 2011. Backed by glorious vocal melodies, lush drum arrangements, and an infectious chorus which will get you singing along, the record's uncanny New Orleans' vibe matches its hope- oriented theme, to deliver a beautifully unforgettable listening experience.
