Minnesota's Xcel Energy Center Launches Sustainability Initiative X cel Energy Center, home of the Minnesota Wild, in conjunction with the St. Paul RiverCentre, is rolling out an unprecedented campus- wide sustainability initiative that will aim to reduce the amount of trash generated at St. Paul RiverCentre, Xcel Energy Center, the Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium and an adjacent property by 50 percent, while increasing the amount of materials recycled to 50 percent within the next two years. The first thing fans and visitors will notice is that nearly every trash container on every level of each facility now has an accompanying recycling bin. Fans attending Xcel Energy Center events will now be able to recycle paper, such as newspapers and game pro- grams sometimes discarded after events. Guests of Saint Paul RiverCentre will be among the first in the country to partici- pate in composting at a convention cen- ter. Composting is being integrated into all campus kitchens and concessions as part of the phased approach, and will be added to front-of-house operations, or public areas, at Xcel Energy Center in the future. A waste assessment revealed that the Xcel Energy Center and adjacent properties collectively generate 2,848,897 pounds of waste per year, including recy- cling. From the assessment, the bench- mark showed the percent of total waste being recycled campus wide was 15 per- cent. The goal of "50-50 in 2" is aimed at increasing that rate to 50 percent — that's 1.2 million pounds of trash the campus is attempting to divert. Current recycling efforts campus-wide include glass, plastic, aluminum, paper, card- board, fluorescent bulbs, pallets, metal and cooking oil used in the facilities. Control Temperature & Humidity Independently With Munters DryCool Standard M unters DryCool™ Standard pro- vides operators the ability to control temperature and humid- ity independently. DryCool™ Standard is designed to cost effectively treat 100% makeup air and can work in conjunction with your existing A/C system or energy recovery ventilator. It controls humidity on an as-needed basis, when humidity levels exceed setpoint. DryCool™ Standard operates cost-efficiently because all of the energy required for the operation of its desiccant dehumidifier is recycled from cooling components. DryCool™ Standard can process between 1,000 cfm and 16,000 cfm of makeup air. For more information log on to munters.us.
