Advantix Systems Wins Award A dvantix Systems, makers of dehu- midification and cooling systems using liquid desiccant technology, has been named a winner of the 2011 AHR Expo Innovation Award, honoring the most innovative HVACR products showcased at the International Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigerating Exposition each year. Advantix Systems' unit offers superior economics and air quality, reducing oper- ating costs by 30-40 percent compared to conventional air systems, and by 55-65 percent relative to desiccant wheel systems. Representing a unique and advanced technology in the traditional dehumidification industry, the system enables more precise control of indoor environments by offering independent temperature and humidity control in a single package. Customers, including ice rink owners, are replacing their desiccant wheels with these innovative systems to control humidity and greatly reduce their energy consumption. Rink Specialists Convert Lot Into Rink At Winter Classic F or most, the Winter Classic in Pittsburgh was a great way to start the New Year, however for Rink Specialists it was truly a lifetime of expe- riences as they transformed the usual "Tail-Gator" parking lot into a fully func- tional NHL sized ice rink (200' x 85'). After the foundation was finished and the final grade completed, Rink Specialists installed the rink plumbing and posi- tioned the ice rink chiller, pumps and generator systems. A unique aspect of the job was that Rink Specialists coordinated the removal and modification of the old Mellon Arena dasherboard system adding a great historical element to the project. The challenge was designing an effective anchoring system that could be fabricated to fit the exact measurements of the Mellon boards, withstand the heavy body checks and high winds while not obstructing the off-ice areas. The Winter Classic Community Rink was open for public use and ultimately was used by more than 8,000 public skaters for 200 ice hockey games. For more information, log on to rinkspecialists.com.
