flooring. They also have doors with a threshold at ice level in order for the play- er to slide directly into the box without having to get off his or her sled. Another feature of the player box is the plexiglass at the top of the boards. This allows a per- son sitting on their sled a chance to see the play and watch the game. The other major aspect of the Vadnais Sports Center is the Polar Chevrolet Dome. This 100,000 square foot dome is the place in the Twin Cities for soccer, lacrosse, softball, baseball, rugby, ulti- mate frisbee and football (tackle, flag and the Lingerie Football League). The dome contains a regulation 11v11 soccer field, a small 6v6 soccer field, batting cages and a 100-meter running track, making it one of the largest multi-pur- pose domes in the country. While people are enjoying the many amenities offered at the facility, they can be comforted that the building is envi- ronmentally friendly. On average, the facility uses 13 percent less energy than the baseline model. Some of the energy- saving aspects of the facility include motion sensor lighting throughout the building, DX air conditioning to cool the dome in the summer months, seven energy recovery ventilators over the ice rinks, and an industrial indirect compres- sor system that uses R507 and glycol as refrigerants. The Vadnais Sports Center has become the place to be in the area, and the partnership between the Sports Center and the city is looking forward to growing together.
