STARrinks.com 26 R INK MAGAZ INE may/June 2011 SPEED NEED FOR Beams from the outer lane and inner lane need to be aligned with a beam reflector in the middle. Protective covers are placed over beams and the reflector after alignment and verification with the timing deck. Only the reflector is moved for resurface. During competition, popular and often crowded public skates are on the Utah Olympic Oval every night. At closing time, the Oval is washed with the ice resurfacer to help remove as much dirt as possible and to repair surface damage incurred by public skaters. Usually three to four buckets of snow are removed during the washing process.
