S ummer is here and things are busier than ever here at STAR. We are finally recovering from our 9th annual North American Rink Conference and Expo (NARCE), which was held at the end of May, and now we are feverishly preparing for another great season of Regional Training Programs, which will be coming to a city near you. This year NARCE was an epic event. We saw a lot of new faces and many long-time supporters; in fact, attendance was the sec- ond highest in the event's history. There were several sold-out courses, and the RINK Expo was also sold out. As always, there was great interaction and networking between attendees, instructors and exhibitors during the whole event. The energy on the tradeshow floor both days was better than ever, thanks to Rick Ninko from our STAR Board of Directors, who did a tremendous job as the master of cere- monies and auctioneer for the live auction. Check out the NARCE recap in pictures in this issue to re-live the event or, in some cases, see what you missed! If you didn't get a chance to attend this year, you definitely will want to put the 10-year anniversary event on your calendar for next May! NARCE 2012 will be held again at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan the week of May 21. We are already looking forward to seeing you there. If you didn't get the opportunity to attend NARCE, there are still opportu- nities to attend a STAR educational course this year. We will be offering our Certified Ice Technician (CIT) courses at five locations around the country this summer and early fall. Becoming a CIT will not only benefit your organization, it will benefit you personally. CITs are recognized as the top operations profes- sionals in our industry, and becoming a member of this elite group will set you apart from your peers. Check out the Professional Development section of this issue for more information about these courses and the other professional des- ignations you can achieve. I hope you enjoy this issue of RINK, and the rest of your summer.
