Safety First at the Pettit Center P ettit National Ice Center partners with Children's Health Education Center. The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic training facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has partnered with their local Children's Hospital and the Children's Hospital Health Education Center (CHEC) to offer youngsters affordable and secure helmets for ice skating. The CHEC was at the Pettit Center for a multi-sport helmet fitting and sale. Currently, the Pettit Center, like many facilities, recommends helmets for youth and adult students who are enrolled in the facility's skating school. The helmets were sold for only $10 and were available on a limited basis in child/youth sizes, as well as youth/adult sizes. SIRO Courses Coming to Minnesota I n November, Serving The American Rinks (STAR) in partnership with the Minnesota Ice Arena Managers Association (MIAMA) will be offering Safe Ice Resurfacer Operations (SIRO) courses in Minnesota. STAR will present SIRO courses at three locations in Minnesota, and the courses will be hosted by MIAMA member facilities. Through this partnership, all MIAMA members will receive a discounted rate to attend a SIRO program. Founded in 1975, MIAMA is a volunteer organization of arena managers and related vendors throughout Minnesota that provides communication and support systems to help members better face issues within the industry.
