n the January/February 2001 issue of Rink magazine it was noted that "Deep in the heart of Texas lies one of the most plush ice rink complexes in North America." Seven years later it could be said that this building is also one of the busiest. But prior to the current success, the eight-year-old building located near Dallas, originally known as the Blue Line Ice Centre, stood vacant for several years. Then, in March 2007, the NYTEX Sports Centre was purchased by NYTEX Sports, LLC. Since then, it has been completely re-branded, revamped and reopened. Today, the primary tenant in the building is the Central Hockey League's (CHL) Texas Brahmas. The home facility is a 2,300-seat multi-purpose arena with five public suites and one owner's suite. Additionally, there are two public skating rinks open for all kinds of activities, including youth hockey organizations, skating programs and public skating. Brahmas hockey is just one of many exciting options at the NYTEX Sports Centre. The facility is also home to the Tejas Volleyball Club and other volleyball house leagues. Last October, the restaurant Duke's Original Roadhouse partnered with the NYTEX Sports Centre so guests can enjoy outstanding food. There is also the Hockey Shop, a full- service pro shop located on-site, which offers an assortment of equipment and accessories for players and fans. Programming at the facility is going extremely well. The rink offers a skating academy and travel hockey league, as well as instructional hockey classes. The Jr. Brahmas Hockey Club has 10 teams at several levels of play, from Mini-Mites to Midgets. Tejas Volleyball provides a volleyball experience for the area's junior club players. Tejas joined the NYTEX Sports Centre in the summer of 2007 and added five complete volleyball courts in the facility's former Olympic-sized ice rink. In all, several hundred thousand spectators come through the doors each year for the many programs, games and activities.
