Figure Skating is proud to deliver a new cutting-edge teaching tool for instructors and beginning skaters. This Basic Skills DVD shows 44 skating skills, from dips to Axels, in a developmental sequence with voice-over instructional tips, all served up through motion-captured 3D animation. Each skill lasts approximately 20-40 seconds and is organized into seven different headings: • Getting Started – Tips on fitting, lacing and falling/recovery • Forward Skating – dips, swizzles, slaloms, one-foot glides, stroking, pumps, edges and crossovers • Backward Skating – swizzles, pumps, edges and crossovers • Turns – forward and backward, outside and inside 3 turns, mohawks • Stops – snowplow, hockey and T-stop • Jumps – bunny hop, half jumps, full- rotation jumps • Spins – two-foot, forward and backward one foot, sit and camel There is also a "Play All" feature which will run through all the skills continuously. This is especially useful for those who wish to use this DVD as a promotional piece in the lobby during lesson times, staff in-services or parent education programs. Each skill may also be viewed individually. By coupling the Basic Skills DVD with the new quick reference skill cards and lesson plan manuals, your staff will have everything they need to be the best instructors possible. Every registered Basic Skills program will receive ONE complimentary copy of the DVD. NGB News 56 R INK MAGAZ INE may/June 2008 U.S. One Goal: Grow the Game Hockey and One Goal have partnered to help overcome the initial cost barrier of entering into hockey by making available, at a very low cost, special First-Timer Rental Equipment Kits for all interested USA Hockey associations and STAR ice rinks. Rinks that take advantage of this special can take a vital, active role in making it easier for parents to give hockey a chance in their family. Each set costs just $60 and includes a helmet with a cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, pants, gloves, shin pads and bag. Sets are available in two sizes — Small, for four to six year olds and Large, for six to eight year olds. The equipment sets are co-branded USA Hockey/ OneGoal and marked Rental (in large block lettering) to encourage the recycle use for starter programs and not long- term use or resale.
