he second week of May is always exciting as it signals yet another NARCE Conference in Chicago. There are so many great aspects to the conference, including the vendors, instructors and, of course, the most important part, the attendees! Each year seems to go by faster and faster, and this year was no exception as it seems like just yesterday we finished NARCE '08! We hope you enjoy this issue of RINK, which corresponds with the 2009 NARCE Conference. We have included many articles this season that relate to NARCE class subjects, such as the operation of equipment including ice resurfac- ers in the Resurfacing 101 section, as well as the management side of our facilities in the Show Me the Money section of this issue. We have received good feedback from our readers about these types of articles. It is our goal with RINK Magazine to share ideas and assist rink operators with infor- mation to help their facilities. The reality is that these articles are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to great infor- mation. For the complete story, we encourage facilities to send their employees to train- ing opportunities such as NARCE where they can receive the most complete and up-to-date information related to the rink and arena industry. At these events, not only does the attendee receive valuable information that they can take back and share with their facility, but the interaction with so many other rink and arena opera- tors is invaluable. On behalf of the entire STAR staff, enjoy this issue of RINK and we hope you are able to take advantage of NARCE and/or one of our STAR training programs this year. —STAR Staff Opening address 8 R INK MAGAZ INE may/june 2009 T Greg Anzelc Dave Geiger, Pat Kelleher, Bill Moreth Jeff Theiler, Mark Vaughan, Susi Wehrli, Dave Wescott Wayne Aussem, Dave Gyger, Don Moffatt, Jeff Theiler, Mark Vaughan, Mike DeArmond Dave Jensen Bryan Nelson www.rinkmagazine.com info@rinkmagazine.com Editor: Contributing Writers: Editorial Board: Design & Production: Sales & Marketing: Advertising: Internet Address: Email: PUBLISHING PARTNER 777 Westchester Avenue, Suite 100 White Plains, NY 10604 Phone: (914) 694-1200, Fax: (914) 694-1002 CEO: Steve Farbman President: James McEwen MINNESOTA OFFICE 505 North Highway 169, Suite 465, Minneapolis, MN 55441 phone: (763) 595-0808, fax: (763) 595-0016, touchpointsports.com | info@touchpointsports.com S T A R www.starrinks.com • www.rinkmagazine.com • www.narce.com Mission of STAR: "To be the premier national organization designed to foster the development, growth and success of ice skating rinks and in-line facilities in the United States."
