During a tournament, does it work to use two ice resurfacers during ice making to try and catch up? Yes, this does work and we have had many facil- ities tell us how much it helped them. You can provide a good ice-make using two IRs in six minutes. We strongly encourage practicing this with operators prior to putting two drivers out there in a rush to catch up. It's rare, but here are pictures of two facilities using three ice resurfacers during a tournament to help get caught up. Very cool, but the operators had better be well trained with driving three at a time! We are looking for a vendor that could provide carpet runners to use on the ice during ceremonies/ presentations, etc. Do you have any recommendations? There are many sources for these carpets. Most arenas use their uniform service company, such as Aramark Services, G&K Services or Cintas. These companies can provide good indus- trial-type runners. They can also add custom logos on them as well. You can purchase or lease them, which is a good alternative if you only need them once or twice a year. If your arena does not nave an account with one of these companies, your city may have an account with one of them. Grainger Industrial Supply also sells this type of carpet runner, up to ten feet long for about $160. I did notice that Home Depot has some eight-foot-long runners that would serve the purpose if you are on a budget. ★ ask dave 58 R INK MAGAZ INE may/June 2009 ■ You have rink questions.
