I didn't plan on joining the family business
until the opportunity presented itself
in 1982. I joined Lawry's Restaurants
after graduating from HBS and I've
been here ever since. In addition to
my responsibilities at Lawry's, I am an
active community volunteer. I am a past
chairman of Hathaway-Sycamores and
AbilityFirst and a director of the California
Restaurant Association.
EDUCATION: Pomona College
(undergraduate); Harvard Business
School (graduate).

BEST ADVICE: Do your personal best at all
you undertake.
FUN FACT: I have been known to build and
repair furniture in our restaurants.
BUCKET LIST: Getting my private pilot's
certifi cate.
HOBBY/PASSION: Woodworking,
contemporary art, architecture, skiing,
cycling, watersports, river rafting,
cooking, fi ne food and beverages, travel,
community service.
FAVORITE DESTINATION: Yosemite National
Park.
PROUD MOMENT: Having three great children
grow into terrifi c adults.
CAR YOU DRIVE: Audi A6 Avant.
LOOKING AHEAD: Transitioning to the fourth
generation leadership in our family
business so that I can undertake other
rewarding things in life.
BEVERAGE OF CHOICE: Triple espresso in the
morning, Macallan 12 on the rocks at night.
TOUGHEST CHALLENGE: Leading the business
successfully through the Great Recession
and a changing hospitality environment.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Even though Lawry's is all
about great prime rib and terrifi c service,
the most rewarding aspect of our business
is creating special memories that enrich
our guests' lives.
