10 ISSUE 99 / 2017 GUESTLIST YOUR SURVIVAL GUIDE TO LIFE FOLLOW @GUESTLISTDOTNET Five Boko Haram commanders were also released by the Nigerian government in exchange. Barrister Mustapha Zanna, played a key role in the negotiations with the terrorist organisation. The freed captives were picked up in helicopters and red cross vehicles which were safely delivered to the capital of Abuja. The eighty-two freed girls formed part of the two hundred and seventy-six who were kidnapped from the 'Government Girls Secondary School' in Chibok on the 14th April 2014. A global campaign called 'Bring Back Our Girls', which was supported by former US First Lady Michelle Obama and noted human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, was launched shortly afterwards. Boko Haram swore allegiance to ISIS in 2015 and is estimated to have over fifteen thousand members. Many of the kidnapped girls are still being held captive, so we can only hope at this point that the negotiations continue After lengthy negotiations with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, the terrorist organisation Boko Haram have released eighty-two kidnapped schoolgirls from captivity. EIGHTY-TWO KIDNAPPED GIRLS FREED BY BOKO HARAM When I first came to study in Europe, I was quite surprised to see students taking a gap year. I seriously thought it is a waste of time, but over time I have changed my mind, and here's 4 reasons why: 1. You could make a real difference Why not volunteer abroad, it's the perfect opportunity to combine doing something worthwhile, while also seeing and experiencing all that the world has to offer. 2. There is a bigger world out there The opportunity to see the world is wonderful and if you start working straight away you could miss it all! They say travel while you are a young, and they are so right. You are more active and we are never guaranteed old age, so do it! 3. There's no need to rush into anything Most decisions made in a hurry turn out really bad. For example, you might decide to go to uni and then realise you didn't actually need that 'degree' to get your dream job. A gap year will give you time to reevaluate your next step. 4. Backpacking adventures Imagine all the amazing stories you will have, you will always have something to talk about! 4 REASONS TO TAKE A GAP YEAR Whether you have just finished college, uni or your first internship a gap year is a great opportunity to relax and reflect on what you have just achieved.
