His career started over three decades ago. Back in 1997, he was already known to Nas as "the same old G". Then, together with Necro in 2013 he became one of The Godfathers. Now it's time for the return of the Don aka Kool G Rap. Perhaps in a similar way as to when you're a fan of grime how the names of artists such as Dizzee and Wiley can't help but perfectly execute a butterfly kick straight to your proverbials, if you are a fan of East Coast rap styles, the name of Kool G Rap should have left its revered and distinguished impression upon you. The colossus of East Coast Rap is pre- paring to tour Europe and the rest of the globe to promote Return of the Don, his first LP in six years. It will also be his first show in London for 25 years! Kool G Rap first made his name known as part of the Juice Crew which also in- cluded legendary old sku NYC acts such as Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Masta Ace and Roxanne Shante. On our side of the pond, you might know him from Klashnekoff's track in 2007 'Terrorise Your City' and Leaf Dog's 'Baggin In Da Spot' in 2013. With show dates set for Manchester, Leeds, and Bristol as well as in Glasgow and Dublin in June-July, this is a great opportunity to see a undisputable archi- tect of East Coast rap do his thing! PLAYLIST Beautiful Little Fools Jorja Smith Find You Charlotte Wilson Cranes in the Sky Solange The Everlasting Wave Xvaier Omar Here's the hip hop & rnb on our playlist this month Starting off rapping under the moniker Wavy Spice and later becoming Princess Nokia. The rapper has never kept herself in a box. A hip hop dream team if ever there was one, DJ Shadow & Nas team up for the HBO series Silicon Valley. GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: PRINCESS NOKIA Both are hugely respected and undoubtedly quintessential hip hop artists. One, a pioneering producer. The other, a true street poet. DJ Shadow and Nas, both signed to the latter's own imprint, Mass Appeal Records, have released the soundtrack 'Systematic' for the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley. The current 3 seasons of Silicon Valley have featured a huge variety of music including Green Day, The Internet, The Mezcals, and Cypress Hill. In a brief promo interview, Nas opens up about being inspired to work with Shadow after hearing 'Nobody Speak' the track featuring Run The Jewels from Shadow's powerful 2016 LP The Mountain Will Fall, an album which he is still currently touring globally. The Silicon Valley soundtrack is out on Mass Appeal Records on June the 16th! From putting out an EP singing over drum and bass type beats, singing sweet songs under just her first name Destiny, and most recently releasing a rap EP 1992, Nokia is anything but dull. She speaks of being a goth/ punk kid who was really into metal and rave music, who never even really listened to rap much. Years ago if a rapper had claimed something like this they would have been looked down on. The artist also uses her platform to change the lives of many women, often speaking out for women of colour and the LGBTQ community. Since her start on the scene Destiny has reinvented herself and shown us so many different sides of her, which all tie beautifully together to make one of rap's most interesting rising stars out at the moment.
