Leaf Dog is back with 'Dyslexic Disciple' and its packed full of his signature beats and top UK features. 20-year old London singer, songwriter and musician Althea is back with her highly-anticipated sophomore EP titled Cold Thoughts. Akua Naru returns to the UK for her highly anticipated live show at Village Underground on May the 24th! The 5-track EP sees Althea collaborating with burgeoning producer and Lone Wolf, as well as musician and producer Dayo, who produced Althea's debut EP See My Vision. Steeped in honest and relatable storytelling that we first heard on See My Vision, Althea's Cold Thoughts EP is a testament of how the R&B newcomer has honed and perfected her craft even further. Held together excellently by her captivating vocals and lush minimalist production, Althea has delivered on what will be one of the best British R&B records of 2017. From the atmospheric piano-led opening track 'Over You' which sees Althea reminiscing about a past love, and the ethereal 'Deserve' backed by moody drums and synth arrangements, to the 90's R&B influenced 'Act Up', and the introspective and deeply personal 'Same Dream', which closes out the record perfectly, the Cold Thoughts EP makes for a compelling listen, from start to finish. If you are a fan of Lauryn Hill, The Roots and the 90's hip-hop movement then Naru's classic boom-bap hip hop sound and socially conscious rhymes are for you! Since gaining our attention with tracks like 'Poetry: How does it feel' and 'The World Is Listening' the artist has continued to captivate audiences with her debut album The Journey Aflame. So if you appreciate poetic lyricism with the added spice of political jargon Naru promises to deliver. Playing alongside the rapper on the night is the DIGFLO band, a six piece ensemble that use drums, keys, saxophone, flute, bass guitar and turntables! I mean seriously, what is there not to like. With some top production credits on both sides of the Atlantic including tracks with Styles P, Vinne Paz and Kool G Rap, Leaf Dog has made sure that his new album is a veritable feast of beats and bars. The main highlight here for me must, of course, be 'The Legacy'. The track follows in the line of classic UK hip hop Crew Cuts, all the way back from Skitz's 'Twilight of the Gods' & 'Fingerprints of the Gods' up to Dirty Dike's 'Posse Cut 9 million'. Featuring 18 well established UK emcees, including celebrated veterans such as Taskforce, Klashnekoff, Jehst, Mystiggi and Phi- Life Cypher, it is the biggest ever UK hip hop Crew Cut ever released, and will surely be straight in at the top of any UK hip hop head's playlist.
