GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: JIMMY CLIFF One of Britain's best loved reggae bands is coming to the XOYO on the 13th of June, and it's bound to be a mad night! Jimmy Cliff returns with joyful track 'Life'! Known for his charismatic presence, cheerful spirit and positive jams, Cliff's latest single 'Life' is a banger! Staying true to its reggae roots, the song is filled with hopeful lyrics like, "Some people live only to make ends meet, I choose to live it and make it sweet." Now aged 70, the reggae superstar still sounds as socially engaged as ever, and with a song like this we can only hope he continues to drop more tracks soon, or even better, a whole new LP! After fifteen albums and two decades on the scene Aswad have gained fans worldwide for their 'rich melodies and compelling harmonies'. First gaining our attention in 1976 with their debut single 'Back to Africa' which hit the number one slot on the UK reggae charts, Aswad have continued to bring out hit after hit. From 'Don't Turn Around,' 'Shine', 'I A Rebel Soul' to 'Dub Fire'. As the duo make their way to the live stage this coming month, make sure you grab your tickets now, especially if you don't want to miss out on seeing the reggae legends in action! EVENT PREVIEW: ASWAD ARTIST OF THE MONTH: CHRONIXX With his London tour only weeks away, Chronixx is on our minds. Last year his hook on Protoje's 'Who Knows', undoubtedly the song of the summer, rang out on every sound system at every festival and rave all summer long. This May sees the drop of chilled out single 'Skankin' Sweet' a teaser ahead of his long-awaited debut album Chronology which is set for release on June 30th, just in time for festival season. We expect to be blazing in the sun all summer to this one! But if you are too exicted to wait why not check out Chronixx at the 02 Academy in Brixton on May the 28th. 48 ISSUE 99 / 2017 REGGAE PLAYLIST Reggae Impact Marcia Atiken Declaration of Dub King Tubby Money In My Pocket Dennis Brown Don't Kill My Love Conkarah Here's the reggae on our playlist this month:
