Remarkable
Rookie Record
Jake Guentzel, who was
born in Omaha, Neb., set
records for goals (13) and
points (21) by a U.S.-born
rookie in one playoff year,
surpassing the marks
shared by Chicago's Jeremy
Roenick (11-7—18 in 20 GP
in 1990) and St. Louis's Joe
Mullen (7-11—18 in 10 GP in
1982).
"It's crazy," said
Guentzel, who helped
the Pittsburgh Penguins
repeat as Stanley Cup
Champions. "You can't
even put into words what
it feels like."

U.S. DEAF TEAM
STRIKES GOLD
k
After coming close several times in past tournaments, Team
USA left the World Deaf Ice Hockey Championship with that
gold medal feel.
The U.S. defeated Canada, 6-3, in front of a home crowd
in Amherst, N.Y., for its first-ever gold medal. It's just the third
time Team USA has medaled in the five-team tournament that
also featured Finland, Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic.
After falling to its border rival in the preliminary round, the
U.S. stormed back in a big way in the gold-medal game. Team
USA's win was fueled by a five-goal second period that includ-
ed two goals from Garrett Gintoli.
The gold medal is extra sweet for many members of the
U.S., which were led by Dartmouth men's hockey associate
coach David Lassonde. He stepped in after Jeff Sauer's passing
in February. Sauer was a long-time coach for Team USA and a
strong supporter of deaf hockey.
