www.travelweekly-asia.com | 27 Tunku Iskandar Group executive chairman of The Melewar Group, which invests in travel and tourism companies, and a Life Member of PATA and ASEANTA. UNDER MY SKIN What is it that brings a big smile to your face? Meeting long-time friends and seeing that they are well and healthy. What is your favourite relaxation? Reading novels and doing Sudoku puzzles. What do you consider your greatest achievement? I have stood on the world travel and tourism stage through my involvement and leadership of a number of international organisations, and I feel that I have contributed in some way to how the industry has evolved today. If you stopped work tomorrow what would you do? I would want to fulfil my "bucket list" by visiting those parts of the world that I have not been to, or have had only a cursory visit (still a large part of the world). Which words or phrases do you most over use? "You know" and "normally". What is your favourite possession? I have two - my mobile phone and my laptop. How would you describe your management style? I would call it "laissez-faire", allowing managers and staff to operate to the best of their ability although conforming to broad rules set for them. Where was your last holiday spent? My last proper holiday was spent with my whole family (wife, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren) in Japan over the Christmas and New Year holidays last year, which was also my 70th birthday, where I was still able to enjoy thrilling rides at Disneyland together with my grandchildren. What make of wristwatch do you wear? I have a number of watches, but I usually wear a Cerruti 1881 that was given to me by Tourism Malaysia many years ago in recognition of my services. What's your favourite world city, and why? Honolulu as it is so laid-back and yet so cosmopolitan with abundance of restaurants featuring cuisine from all over the world, and where it's easy to drive out to peace and quiet around Oahu. Is there a motto that drives the way you live? "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" (not "Do unto others as they have done unto you"!) What do you consider your greatest indulgence? That would have to be chocolate, dark and straight from the fridge.
