4 ISSUE 101 / 2017 NEWS FROM PARADES TO CLUB NIGHTS, PRIDE 2017 WAS THE BIGGEST ONE YET! Pride 2017 boasted to be the biggest one ever this year and with events happening all over, love shone throughout the capital on the 8th - 9th July. Some highlights of the week included Pride in the Park, Parliament displaying rainbow coloured lights and of course, the famous Pride Parade that had over 300 groups of people marching to show their love, support and pride. There are still several events continuing around the world to keep the message going. The 'Queer British Art' 1861-1967 exhibition is on at the Tate until the 7th of October. The exhibit will be displaying famous LGBTQ art from many great artists, such as Simeon Solomon, William Strang & Edward Burra. As well as the 'Angels in America' a play about New Yorkers dealing with the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, that will be showing at the National Theatre until the 19th of August. LONDON NEWS The East London acid attack on the 21st of June caused a big scare on social media with the public fearing an event like this will happen again & again. The incident left Resham Khan, 21, and Jameel Muhktar, 37, with life changing facial and neck injuries. Here at Guestlist, we don't think any Londoners should be scared while going about their daily lives. Press and police called for the public to reduce online commentary on the 21st June incident, as the virality of this news added to the scaremongering prevalent in social media. Unfortunately, since this event there has been further incidents involving acid. On July the 13th two males on a moped drove up to 5 individuals and threw the substance on them. Because of the frequent use of this corrosive acid, there is now a petition on www.change.org, already signed by thousands to change the law on obtaining acid. However, it is easy to become bogged down with the negatives, with attacks like these happening, but this is still the great city of London. Known for tolerance and multiculturalism. Whatever people who are opposed to this do, they will never win. We are too far ahead. WE WILL NOT HIDE IN FEAR, WE ARE LONDONERS
