TRACK OF THE MONTH: FLECK Since their landmark hit 'Tear You Down' on Breakbeat Kaos back in 2008, Brookes Brothers have propelled themselves to the very forefront of the scene. Following his debut on Sub Slayers last month, the Athens born, Italian based FLecK returns with another belter. It's two jungle drenched cuts that draw so much from the classic style but with a lot of originality to make it stand out from the rest. The lead track, 'You Got Me' opens with spacey synths and a classic vocal before FLecK turns it on its head with an explosive amen laden drop. High energy bass tones drive the record as the classic jungle drum pattern rinses out. On the flip side FLecK takes it down a tone with 'When We Use To Chill'. Again mashing a vocal sample that lays above a smooth rolling riddim. FLecK's latest is characterised by his sound that he's been developing for years. Injecting reggae roots and dub with bubbly bass and fast breaks is his speciality, and as you can hear from these latest cuts, practice really does make perfect! These days the boys are signed to Viper Recordings and have a strong catalogue of tunes behind them. This October sees them releasing their next big project, namely their second album, Orange Lane. It's been a long time coming, six years after their debut and a few years after they first suggested. Though perfection takes time and if there's one thing the Brookes Brothers have made clear during their career it's that they don't do things in half measures! Orange Lane's track list was shared on their Facebook and shows 13 tracks featuring top talents including Danny Byrd, ShockOne & Majesty. The album will come through Viper Recordings on October 20th, so there is something to look forward after summer has pasted. NEWS: BROOKES BROTHERS HAVE A NEW ALBUM COMING OUR WAY! ARTIST OF THE MONTH: SPARTAQUE Spartaque hasn't fucked about with this one. Rapidly rising Ukraine techno powerhouse, Spartaque is back with a vengeance. Landing a killer four tracked EP on Tronic, it's exactly why he's making such waves in the techno scene. Entitled No Bullets Please, the theme is hypnotic techno grooves designed for the clubs and festival tents that'll get all corners of the rave moving. The uplifting melodies combined with his no bullshit rolling rhythms are a sound he's taken the time to perfect, and the results are nothing short of incredible. Throughout the EP he exercises sick production techniques with a clear ear for the kind of hooks that'll get into the minds and souls of ravers. 38 ISSUE 101 / 2017 DRUM & BASS PLAYLIST The drum and bass on our playlist this month Rolling Fire Bladerunner Shadow Play S.P.Y.
