So you have just come back from Japan? Yeah, I just came back from my Honeymoon. I was thinking it was going to be a massive culture shock, more of a language barrier, but it wasn't at all. We loved it. It was really weird because they had photo booths where you can add cat faces, most of the cartoons have white faces but hey. Were you deejaying at all or was it a straight honeymoon? It was purely a honeymoon, it was amazing. We picked it because we both wanted to go somewhere I wouldn't get booked to DJ and we have both never been. Funny enough I got a couple bookings there two weeks after booking our honeymoon. So I'm back there in January. We had 10 nights, Tokyo for 4 nights, a night in Osaka, and we finished it up in the Japanese island of Okinawa. After the honeymoon, I have played at Tomorrowland, because I have felt rested since the honeymoon, I have tried to keep up this healthy honeymoon vibe. Ironically, I played in Italy and at DC10 and did both of them sober. It's the most fun I have had in ages Is your wife doing the same thing? No, I'm saying this as I sip a G&T but we are doing the mix mag live thing and I have about 30 mates down, so I'm going to have a little drink today... I'm going to try and continue this vibe, I have only done a couple gigs without drinking but I'm enjoying the vibe. I feel like I'm on a roll doing some gigs without drinking. It's good to see that, in this scene, people think it's great that we can drink and DJ and generally do that week in week out but the reality is you burn out if you party too hard. Yeah mate, it can get pretty dark. it's easily done, you're playing in a party, most people don't drink when they go to work. (lol) I played at DC last Wednesday and as I said I did it sober and I got into it so much, it's the best time I have ever had on the terrace. I did the exact same set 5 weeks ago but I drank loads, this time and I didn't drink anything I was so connected to the set and the crowd. It's quite funny when you start deejaying, you're not too confident playing to the public and you have a couple drinks or a joint to calm your nerves, but then it can become a normal thing to have quite a few drinks and it can lead to playing intoxicated all the time. You forget that you will always be more connected when you're not intoxicated. Exactly mate, you're more on the ball and the drink dumbs you down, your senses are more heightened when you're not smashed. For me, if I can fully relax sober then I'm good to go, but sometimes it takes a couple drinks to relax. So tell me something, I remember meeting Jamie a long time ago when he moved from Wales. We both played at a few underground parties together when Shoreditch was an edgy place to hang out. He hooked up with a mutual friend of ours called Offia (RIP) who lived next to James from Global Underground and was doing some music with him, He got a hookup from Damian Lazarus and a little time after that he simply blew up with a string of hits. He has definitely put the work in and the beautiful thing about his story is that he has not forgotten his friends. He has brought many of them into his world. How did you connect with Jamie and whats your story? You're so right, you met him way before me. He has Dion who runs Paradise, Richy and so many of his old friends that are now involved, it definitely has that family vibe. I have only known him for four years, I'm not from London and I never hung around his circle of his friends. I had met him 6 years ago when I was at Uni in Edinburgh, I had an after party in my flat and Jamie was there. I didn't actually end up speaking to him as I was star struck that Jamie Jones was in my flat. I don't think he remembered it. What happened was, one of my mates sent some of my music to the Hot Creations public demo address, Paolo got hold of it and passed it on to Jamie and it just went from there. He started playing some of my stuff and then he signed the fifth track to Hot Creations. 30 ISSUE 102 / 2017 Patrick's swift rise up the echelons of Dance music's most talented alliance comes as no surprise given his impressive resume.
