(Right) Travelling with Qantas, 1930s style SYDNEY – Qantas has announced the appointment of leading Australian designer Martin Grant, as the new uniform designer for Qantas' cabin crew and uniformed employees. Qantas chief executive offi cer Alan Joyce said that Martin's creative direction and 30 years of experience will help to develop the concept and brand for the Qantas employees. "Martin's work reflects modern and contemporary designs and we were extremely impressed with his appreciation for the Qantas brand and his enthusiasm to design the next instalment of the Qantas uniform," said Joyce. For Grant, it is a great honour to be chosen as the airline's new uniform designer. "As an Australian, I'm proud to be working with such an iconic Australian brand. It will be wonderful to see the Qantas teams wearing my design across Australia and in cities all over the world," commented Grant. A uniform panel will be formed to provide feedback on areas concerning comfort, wear and design. The Qantas uniform has been improvised and redesigned nine times since 1959 with internationally-renowned designers such as Pucci, Marc Newson and Yves Saint Laurent being the predecessors. The new uniform designed by Grant will replace the existing one introduced in 2003, by designer Peter Morissey. Qantas aims to launch the new uniform design in 2014.
