The Merlion Hotel
I got a call the other day offering me a night's stay in the Merlion Hotel. Well it was quite a privilege to be given that offer but alas I couldn't take it up due to other plans I had made earlier. There is right now a lot of hype surrounding the Merlion Hotel. As part of the Singapore Biennale organised by the Singapore Art Musuem, the Merlion Hotel is just one of the many artwork installation projects presented. Thus Singapore's tourism destination landmark The Merlion underwent a transformation starting February 7 to become a hotel suite. This will only last till June 6 when
it reverts to being a tourist landmark again. Judging by the publicity it's been given, this art installation has been a success, people are intrigued by this novel idea, having the Merlion in your room watching your every move. like how it's watched the evolution of Singapore. I have tremendous respect for the
Merlion which is also another reason I can't bear the idea of him being covered up, this is an icon of Singapore. I think this Merlion Hotel is a great idea, but I'm waiting for June 6 when he will bask in his glory again unfettered by the amenities of a hotel.
