Looking into the crystal ball
It's that time of the year when people start making predictions about what 2011 would bring. Barring any un- foreseen circumstances most would say that 2011 will be a good year for the travel industry with more people travelling. (The cold blizzards that are hitting the Northern Hemisphere will come to pass!) Defi nitely you will see more people
travelling in the Asia-Pacifi c region, and tourism boards are foreseeing their targets being surpassed. Already, confi - dent of the stream of traffi c, hotels
in
countries such as Singapore are raising their rates. And airlines have gotten into the act earlier and holding their rates high. Thus higher prices do not seem to be a dampener on travel aspirations.
This definitely is a harbinger of good news or is it? We will explore this in another issue of TravelWeekly. In this issue, we look at how mo-
bile apps are leading the way in which technology is used in the travel indus- try. There is a growing number of mo- bile users using smart phones and thus adopting mobile apps which makes life more convenient for them. According to Morgan Stanley, mobile internet usage is ramping up much faster than desktop Internet usage did. As such mobile Internet users will surpass desktop Internet users by about 2013. Thus smart phones are revolutionising our way of life, in how we work and play. There are more interesting nug- gets of truths about mobile usage in the feature story so check it out.
