Trade show fever
YES, it's that time of the year again when trade show fever hits. Already we've had ITB Asia in Singapore and I would like to tell you it was an exciting affair. Why? Because this year the official partner country for ITB Asia was Egypt. They spared no expense as they hosted a dinner for guests at ITB, there was exotic food and more importantly exotic dancers. The Egyptians sure know how to throw a party and let's hope they really intend to focus on Asia as a source of tourists. I'm sure lots of people would like to check out this destination for themselves. Many movies have featured Egypt and it is a land of mystique, but less than a million tourists from Asia venture there, quite a mystery? The other trade shows happening
are as you know are WTM and CITM. One in the west and the other in the east and never the twain shall meet? But I'm sure companies attribute equal importance to both of them. Let's not forget that China is a roaring dragon with many Chinese eager to explore the shores of another land and the one that
captures their attention is a clear winner. One simply cannot underestimate the Chinese traveller, they are willing to spend and they have the means. This year, I will be at CITM and it will be chilly there, winter is not a particular season I like having to be bundled up in clothes. But I know it will be an interesting time there, and a time to practice my rusty Mandarin. I remember Beijing which has changed so much since I was there my first time in 1997, now it's like any developed cosmopolitan city. But now I get the chance to drop by Shanghai and I hope to see the World Expo, the last time I went was in Japan. Another destination on my wish
list is the UK, I have a favourite cousin there but alas WTM is not my cards. Perhaps I should have wished harder, I love London and everything about it. The bookstores, museums, shopping and theatre, what's there not to like. And there's even the Christmas market. No it's never too early to talk about Christmas. Maybe if I'm a good girl Santa will grant my wish to go to London.
