But he, and Purdue's other ends, have failed in trying to keep big runs outside the tackles. Phillips has been a little nicked up. 2. Jalani Phillips 89 6-4, 260, So. Weakside Linebacker 1. Will Lucas 45 Defensive Tackle 1. Kawann Short 93 6-4, 315, Sr. (5) 20 tackles, 9 TFL, 4 sacks, 2 PBU, 4 blk kick* Short's gone a few games now without a sack, but he did have a tackle for loss when he blew up a James White attempt in the fourth quarter. It was one of his three tackles. Short also blocked the sixth field goal of his career. 2. Michael Rouse 97 6-4, 395, R-Fr. 5-11, 230, Jr. • 33 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 1 int., 1 PBU, 1 FR, 2 FF* Lucas got sucked in badly on a Wisconsin play-action pass, a result of Purdue being gashed by the Badger running game. But he had two TFLs and a forced fumble — Wisconsin recovered — in the second quarter. Robinson missed a safety, when his tackle glanced off a ball-carrier. 2. Sean Robinson 10 6-3, 240, So. Cornerback 1. Ricardo Allen 21 5-9, 186, Jr. 20 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 int., 1 PBU* Allen is hobbled with injuries to his ankles and shin. It's affecting his play, even though he's not likely to admit so. He'll try to go this weekend, but we'll see how long. Williams could see more time. 2. Frankie Williams 6 5-9, 186, R-Fr. Middle Linebacker 1. Joe Gilliam 39 Defensive Tackle 1. Bruce Gaston Jr. 90 6-2, 303, Jr. 12 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 FR* All three of Gaston's solo tackles came right at the point of attack on the line of scrimmage, a good sign. Unfortunately, there were too few by the Boilermakers. Gaston's dealt with a ham- string injury but appeared better vs. UW; Taylor has an ankle issue. 2. Brandon Taylor 55 6-1, 295, Jr. 6-1, 227, So. 23 tackles* Gilliam has started every game at middle linebacker and is making a tackle here and there, but isn't making many game- changing plays. Purdue needs better play from him, and the linebackers in general. He had four tackles vs. Wisconsin, but struggles to get off blocks sometimes. 2. Antwon Higgs 5 6-3, 246, Sr. Free Safety 1. Taylor Richards 4 Strong Safety 5-10, 192, So. 18 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 2 PBU, 1 punt blk.* Get this: Purdue's four safeties had 23 tackles, too many and a sign that the Boilermakers were allowing big plays far too often. Richards had six tackles and Johnson had four. 2. E.J. Johnson 7 6-1, 185, So. Defensive End 1. Ryan Russell 99 6-5, 275, So. 14 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 PBU* Russell hasn't missed a game — he came out of the second half vs. Eastern Michigan — but is not at 100-percent due to a lingering knee injury. It's hurt his pursuit, it seems. He had only one tackle vs. Wisconsin. 2. Greg Latta 91 6-6, 265, Jr. Strongside Linebacker 1. Robert Maci 58 6-4, 249, Sr. (5) 16 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 FF* Wisconsin likely kept an extra eye on Maci, who has been playing well of late. He had four tackles, including one for loss. It was interesting to see Ezenwa and Purdue's other backup LBs on the field when the Badgers were pinned on their goal line in the first quarter. 2. Nnamdi Ezenwa 18 6-2, 225, Sr. (5) 1. Landon Feichter 44 6-0, 189, So. 32 tackles, 3 int., 2 PBU* Feichter led the Boilermakers with 12 tack- les, and showed hustle, even when things looked bleak in the second half. He seems to have an ability to make plays on the ball, making his third interception of the season vs. UW. 2. Max Charlot 34 6-0, 201, Sr. Cornerback 1. Josh Johnson 28 5-11, 195, Sr. 21 tackles, 1 TFL, 2 int., 7 PBU, 1 FR, 1 FF* Johnson had four tackles and a third-down pass breakup on a pass intended for Montee Ball. It forced Wisconsin into a 44-yard field goal attempt, which was missed. Harris is expected to play this week after missing the last two games. 2. Normondo Harris 1 6-1, 180, Jr. GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 23, EXPRESS 7 • 15
